Stephanie Borgani & Isabel Crespo Pardo are vocalists, composers and improvisers currently exploring Brazilian music as an unaccompanied vocal duo. Influenced by Jazz, Classical music, and Free Improvisation, their recompositions of popular songs balance dissonance with lyricism and openness with specificity.
The two Latinx musicians met as graduate students at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. After an introduction by faculty member Dominique Eade, they began the duo project by writing arrangements individually and workshopping them together. Their self-guided weekly meetings were a necessary container for the development of intricate repertoire, which they recorded in Summer 2021.
Isabel and Stephanie’s music showcases a mastery of their instruments as well as a willingness to experiment, resulting in songs that spill over several genres while staying rooted in Latin-American musical traditions. The duo’s debut album features original arrangements and recompositions of Brazilian songs, reflecting an interest in MPB from the 1970s, in particular.
Stephanie Borgani & Isabel Crespo Pardo are an international project, but maintain a home base in the American northeast.
“Stephanie Borgani and Isabel Crespo have teamed up in a spectacular a cappella duo. The music they make together is unique, virtuosic, fun, jaw-dropping, emotional and new…. but more than anything, it is deep and beautiful. Stephanie and Isabel are on to something very special and I can’t wait to hear where they will take their artistry next. An absolute must to hear! Love it!”Frank Carlberg
“With an affinity and vocal blend normally only afforded siblings, these two kindred spirits and monumentally talented musicians have formed a vocal duo of enchanting, focussed and magical music. Two voices alone, creating an entire world for the listener.”-Dominique Eade
