During the Spring of 2020, under the guidance of pianist and NEC faculty member Henrique Eisenmann, Stephanie wrote an independent research paper on race and Brazilian music in US jazz environments, which has contributed to her sense of direction and responsibility as a light-skinned Brazilian musician abroad. The study, entitled “Brazilian Jazz and the Myth of Racial Democracy”, can be found here, as well as an accompanying collaborative spreadsheet with resources on Afro-Brazilian music, here. She has chosen to share this with the sole intention of spreading awareness around Afro-Brazilian music’s significance to the jazz tradition.
